Angry Birds fan mod changing it into a NES game aesthetically. I was the leader of this project, and worked on art design, sound design, and level design. Click on each to view more.Free download on Game Jolt
Art Design - Angry Birds Famicom
I worked on game sprites and backgrounds, HUD design, concept art, and promotional art.
Credit to Nathan Silver, who I frequently collaborated with and received feedback from for the in-game art.
In-Game Art
Classic
8-bit style renditions of the original character sprites.
The key rules were to have 3 colors per each character sprite, and that there's a set of color palettes seen throughout the game. The latter is why Stella (pink bird) is yellow in the sprites, as pink isn't a common color in the game.
Some characters, such as Bomb (black bird), Hal (green bird), Foreman Pig (mustache), and King Pig break the former, as they are supposed to emulate visual tricks done to get around hardware limitations (think Mega Man's face, or eye sclera in Super Mario Bros. 2)
Bootleg Bash
For the first exclusive episode, Bootleg Bash, the idea was to make the characters look like NES bootleg characters with other character faces awkwardly stitched onto them, like 7 Grand Dad. Nathan Silver handled most of these and I made adjustments after.
Famicom Frenzy
For the second exclusive episode, Famicom Frenzy, the characters would cross over with other NES games. The birds would change appearance based on the art style of each game, and introduce new playable characters and other mechanics inspired by those games.
Background Art
Classic
8-bit style renditions of the original backgrounds.
Original hardware specifically allows for 4 tile palettes on screen, with each palette being 3 colors and a background color. Despite this, I mainly limited myself to 2 palettes for backgrounds, one for the floor, and another for the rest of the background, like skies and hills.
HUD Design
HUD design was redrawn from the original Angry Birds in pixel form. To replicate an authentic feeling, buttons change color to fit with the palettes on-screen and menu animations were reprogrammed.

Sound Design - Angry Birds Famicom
All sound design was done using Dn-Famitracker. The soundtrack was composed by me and Nathan Silver. Sound effects were mainly done by me, with Silver popping in to help out with a few. Most sound effects from the original game, like character voices, are resampled using the DPCM channel, while other "foley-like" sound effects, such as block breaking sounds, were manually redone with the other sound channels.
Since the original Angry Birds doesn't have much of a soundtrack, aside from the title theme and a few other jingles, the team voted on having original compositions in place of the ambiences present in the original game.
Level Design - Angry Birds Famicom
The premise of the Bootleg Bash levels was to re-imagine levels from bootlegs and clones of the games as proper Angry Birds levels. On the left of each image is the original level, and on the right is the remake.(Noteworthy is that for Bootleg Bash, block colors have changed; glass is pink and stone is cyan. Some screenshots may not reflect this, however, as the change hasn't been applied completely)

Pac-Man fan hack starring Man-Pac, a clone of the real Pac-Man who runs amok after his creator Kinzo brings him to life. Since the main four ghosts are busy chasing Pac-Man, a different group of ghosts is sent to capture and retrieve him back.I worked with screw on promotional art work, providing sketches and background art work.

Sketches
I sketched the front and back of the flyer, taking inspiration from existing flyers for Pac-Man games. Specific flyers are shown at the bottom for comparison.
Background Design
Along with contributing sketches for the flyer, I also painted the background for the front side. The background was based on the Secret Monster Base world of Pac-Man Arrangement, and was largely inspired by the promotional art work for Metro-Cross, another Namco game.

2023 - 2024
I'm not allowed to publicize specific details as to what this is, but I have been given permission to share work that I've done for it.
Art
I mostly popped in in to revise a couple of things, but I did do a lot of map artwork on my own.

Sound Design
All sound design was done using Furnace Tracker. I had a good amount of involvement in the soundtrack, which consists mostly of 8-bit covers of songs from several Pac-Man games.

Level Design
The idea for these was to redraw levels from other Pac-Man games in the style of the original game.
At the bottom of each image is the original level, and on the top is the redraw.
